Smiling, Caring and Learning Together on a Journey with God

Terrific take-off at The Wetlands

On Wednesday, Hawthorn class visited the WWT Arundel Wetlands Centre. We all had an amazing and fun day out learning!

When we arrived we got to explore some different areas of the wetlands centre. We saw many different habitats for different creatures. There was a pond, where we saw some little fish, pond skaters and some birds flying overhead. There was a duck pond with lots of different types of ducks living there. We had a go at identifying some of them. Opposite the ducks lived some swans. One of the swans was not as happy to see us as we were to see him! We went into the hides to quietly watch the birds above. We also saw some more birds sitting on the water as well as cows in the field.

We had a packed lunch picnic together looking out at the Pelican Cove.

After lunch, we went to visit Ava in her nest and she gave us an important mission to become guardians of the wild! We completed three activities at the wetlands centre to earn some badges towards our goal of 10. When we reach 10 badges, we become official guardians of the wild and receive a special certificate and a badge that we can wear at school! Here is the website you need to continue earning badges at home: Meet Ava — Generation Wild (wwt.org.uk) You must log into the website using the name and password given to you on the envelope. You will also find a free pass to the wetlands for your whole family in the envelope!

It really was a terrific day out and everybody had a great time! I can't wait to give out the prizes to the new guardians of the wild! Who will become a guardian first??
