The Very Hungry Caterpillar

This week in Cherry Class we have been continuing to learn about seasonal changes in nature.

We have been watching as our caterpillars have got very big! They have now formed a chrysalis. Following the children's interest, we have been reading the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle. The children have been retelling, ordering parts of the story and writing the story.

In maths, we have been learning about odd and even numbers. See if your child can tell you about odd and even numbers and what makes them odd/even. We have been identifying and sorting numbers using Numicon, tens frames and ladybug spots.

Lots of the children have been enjoying creative opportunities linked to the very hungry caterpillar. Watch out for our class worship in a few weeks where we will be sharing our creations.

In Music, we have been learning the song 'Big Bear Funk' and we have been using instruments to play in time with the beat.

In phonics this week we have had an assessment week. I have been so pleased to see what wonderful progress the children have been making in their reading over the last half term.

We have lots of exciting things planned next half term and we can't wait to end our year on a high!

Enjoy the half term holiday and let's hope we have some sunshine!
